Well, I'm on the road. I'm posting this from my phone in the Denver airport. My bags are checked and I'm about to sit on a plane for the next twenty two hours. I'll touch down in Saigon just after midnight on the 11th (with a fourteen-hour time difference).
After consultation with friends of friends and a couple of books, I think I have a rough idea of what I'll be doing: I'll start in Saigon, maybe check out the Mekong delta a bit, head up to Nha Trang, stop in Hue, then head to Hanoi, spend a bit of time in Halong Bay and Cat Ba, then move on to Sapa, maybe climb Mt. Fansipan, and fly back to Saigon. But nothing is booked, so all of this is likely to change.
That's all I have for now. Next update to come sometime after I land and gather my bearings.

Glad you have arrived in Saigon safely --- more than 24 hours of travel! Can't wait to hear about your experiences.
