One of the places I really wanted to see while in Saigon was the War Remnants Museum. A fair portion of why I chose Vietnam over other Southeast Asian countries for this trip stems from my interest in the Vietnam war.
The museum is an interesting mix of about half US and Southern Vietnamese military equipment and half really horrifying photos of the war. The museum used to be called the Museum of Chinese and American War Crimes. There was a distinct dichotomy in the exhibits. Some areas were neutral, such as an exhibit donated by the state of Kentucky focused on journalists from all sides, while others fit well with the original name of the museum, such as the exhibit on Agent Orange (which, somewhat shockingly, featured actual preserved deformed fetuses).
The museum does an excellent job portraying the horrors and impacts of the war. It was very powerful.
